Ten minutes a day
The Daily Way
One theme each week, set by Sunday's readings and carried into your home through every weekday.
What it is
A daily companion for your household
The Daily Way is a short written guide, published each week, that walks you through Scripture five days at a time. It is Bible first and brief by design: one passage, one question, one prayer and one small thing to do, in about ten minutes a day.
A minute and a half on how it works, if you would rather be shown than told.
Most of us were never taught how to read Scripture daily, how to pray with what we have read, or how to bring it to the table where our household eats. Those three things are learned rather than inherited, and almost nobody hands them on any more. The Daily Way is our attempt to hand you all three at once, in a form short enough to actually be read on an ordinary Tuesday.
Every edition follows the readings appointed for the coming Sunday. That is the whole point of it. The sermon you hear on Sunday, the lesson your children receive in Field Life Kids, the conversation on Wednesday evening and the ten minutes at your own kitchen table are all the same story, told once and returned to often. One church, one theme, many tables.
What each day gives you
What each week contains
A devotion to open the week and set the theme. A note for Sunday, with the readings and the chapter our children will be exploring. Six days of readings, Monday through Saturday, with Saturday looking ahead to the Gospel you will hear the next morning. And one Table Talk question for the household to carry through the week.
It is written by our clergy and staff in rotation, with lay writers of the parish joining them over time, so that the voice you hear through the week is the voice of this congregation rather than a book bought in from elsewhere.
How to use it
Read it aloud
Let the kitchen table become a small nave. Read the portion aloud when you can, and let the questions be answered by the youngest voice first.
Four short parts
Each weekday gives you a reading, a question to sit with, a one-sentence prayer, and one small practice for the day. Nothing takes long.
Saturday looks ahead
Saturday's reading is tomorrow's Gospel, so that you come to the Eucharist already carrying the passage you are about to hear preached.
Do not worry when a day is missed. Mercy governs this practice, not scorekeeping.
Have it sent to you
Each edition is published at noon on the Sunday whose week it opens, so that it is in hand as the week begins. Ask us to add you and it will simply arrive.
